IGCSE Psychology Tutor Cambridge / Edexcel Syllabus  | Position Overview

A student in Qatar is seeking an experienced and dedicated IGCSE Psychology Tutor to provide focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of the Cambridge and/or Edexcel IGCSE Psychology syllabus, a passion for teaching, and the ability to tailor lessons to the individual learning pace and needs of the student. The role offers flexible scheduling to accommodate both the tutor’s and student’s availability.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education (Psychology), or a closely related discipline (mandatory).
  • Postgraduate qualification (Master’s or higher) in Psychology or Education is a strong advantage.
  • Formal teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, BEd, or equivalent) is preferred but not mandatory for experienced tutors.
  • Cambridge International or Edexcel examiner / marker experience is a significant advantage.

Experience Required

  • Proven experience teaching or tutoring IGCSE Psychology at Cambridge or Edexcel level (mandatory).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of classroom teaching or private tutoring experience in IGCSE or equivalent secondary-level Psychology.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver targeted one-on-one tutoring sessions with measurable improvement in student performance.
  • Experience preparing students for IGCSE examinations — including structured revision, exam technique coaching, and timed practice.
  • Familiarity with the specific assessment objectives, command words, and marking criteria used by Cambridge and Edexcel examiners.

Subject Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge IGCSE Psychology syllabus (0987) and/or Edexcel International GCSE Psychology specification.
  • Strong grasp of core psychology topics including: research methods, memory, perception, development, social psychology, criminal psychology, and biological psychology.
  • Expert familiarity with past-paper practice — ability to guide students through a structured programme of timed past papers with detailed mark-scheme review.
  • Skilled in teaching examination techniques — structuring responses, applying psychological terminology accurately, and maximising marks on 2, 4, 6, and 8-mark questions.
  • Ability to diagnose individual student weaknesses and design customised lesson plans to address specific knowledge and skills gaps.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools for online tutoring (Zoom, Google Meet, MS Teams, or equivalent) if sessions are conducted remotely.
  • Familiarity with Cambridge / Edexcel mark schemes, examiner reports, and grade threshold documents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured, engaging, and productive one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to the student’s current level, learning style, and target grade.
  • Deliver comprehensive coverage of the Cambridge / Edexcel IGCSE Psychology syllabus, ensuring no topic gaps remain before the examination.
  • Design and implement a personalised revision plan aligned with the student’s exam schedule and areas of weakness.
  • Guide the student through systematic past-paper practice with detailed feedback on answers, use of terminology, and exam structure.
  • Coach the student on effective exam techniques — how to interpret command words, structure extended responses, and manage time during the examination.
  • Review and explain mark schemes with the student to build familiarity with examiner expectations and marking criteria.
  • Track and monitor the student’s progress, identifying areas of improvement and adjusting the tutoring approach accordingly.
  • Provide motivational support, building the student’s confidence and reducing exam anxiety.
  • Assign and review homework tasks, practice questions, and self-study activities between sessions.
  • Maintain open communication with the student (and parents/guardians if required) regarding progress and next steps.

  • Excellent command of English — both spoken and written — for clear instruction and explanation.
  • Patient, encouraging, and adaptable teaching style suited to one-on-one learning environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex psychological concepts for secondary-level students.
  • Highly organised with the ability to plan structured lesson sequences and monitor progress systematically.
  • Punctual, reliable, and committed to the student’s academic success.
  • Passionate about Psychology as a subject and able to inspire enthusiasm in the student.

Schedule & Availability

  • Flexible timings — sessions to be scheduled at mutually convenient times for the tutor and student.
  • Availability on weekday evenings and/or weekends is preferred.
  • Frequency and duration of sessions to be agreed upon appointment.
