About This Opportunity

A well-established MEP and fire protection contracting company based in Dubai, UAE is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Engineer to join their growing team. This role is specifically focused on fire alarm systems, fire fighting and suppression systems, emergency lighting, and mechanical ventilation projects โ€” all of which are central to building safety compliance across Dubai’s booming construction landscape.

The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience in site supervision, fit-out works, or infrastructure project delivery. A strong working knowledge of AutoCAD or REVIT is essential for this position, as the role involves regular interaction with engineering drawings, system layouts, and coordination documents. Experience in fire safety systems specifically โ€” rather than general civil or structural engineering alone โ€” will be a decisive factor in the selection process.

Dubai’s construction and real estate sector continues to expand at a remarkable pace. With the UAE government’s Vision 2031 agenda driving large-scale infrastructure projects, hospitality developments, residential towers, and commercial complexes across the emirate, the demand for qualified engineers in the fire protection and safety systems domain has never been higher. This is a strong opportunity for mid-career professionals looking to grow within a technically challenging, compliance-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineer specializing in fire and ventilation systems, you will be expected to manage and supervise project delivery from initial site mobilization through to testing, commissioning, and final handover. Your daily responsibilities will span technical, administrative, and coordination functions, requiring both field presence and office-based work.

  • Supervise and manage on-site installation of fire alarm systems, fire suppression networks, and mechanical ventilation systems across active construction projects in Dubai.
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings, shop drawings, and system schematics prepared in AutoCAD or REVIT, identifying discrepancies and coordinating resolution with the design team.
  • Coordinate with main contractors, consultants, and client representatives to ensure timely completion of MEP and fire system works in line with the project programme.
  • Ensure all installation works comply with Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) codes, NFPA standards, and UAE Fire and Life Safety Code requirements at every stage.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks, documenting non-conformances and ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  • Manage material submittals, method statements, and inspection and test plans (ITPs) for all fire and ventilation scopes of work.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate daily site reports, progress updates, and as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with the estimation and procurement teams during the pre-construction and procurement phases to ensure material specifications and quantities are correctly captured.
  • Attend and represent the company at technical meetings, progress reviews, and DCD inspection appointments.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and site technicians, ensuring safe working practices and technical standards are consistently upheld.
  • Manage and track project variation orders and change requests, liaising with the commercial team to ensure financial implications are properly recorded.
  • Support the testing and commissioning process for fire alarm panels, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, and ventilation equipment in coordination with system specialists.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must hold a recognised Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Applications from candidates holding degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering who have demonstrable experience in fire system site supervision will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. The minimum academic qualification is a four-year undergraduate engineering degree; candidates with postgraduate qualifications or professional accreditations will be given preference.

A minimum of 6 to 8 years of post-graduate engineering experience is mandatory, with a clear and verifiable track record in at least one of the following areas: building fit-out projects, site supervision of MEP works, or civil infrastructure delivery involving fire protection systems. Generic construction site experience without exposure to fire alarm or fire fighting systems will not meet the requirements of this position.

Technical proficiency in AutoCAD is essential, and experience with REVIT โ€” particularly for clash detection and coordination with other building services โ€” is highly valued. Candidates should be comfortable working with large, multi-discipline drawing sets and generating shop drawings or mark-ups independently. Familiarity with BIM workflows is an advantage in an increasingly digitized project environment.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum 6โ€“8 years in fit-out, site supervision, or infrastructure with fire systems exposure.
  • Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory; REVIT experience is a strong advantage.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with NFPA, UAE Fire and Life Safety Code, and Dubai Civil Defence regulations.
  • Communication: Fluent English required; Arabic language skills are an asset for client and authority liaison.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to lead site teams, manage subcontractors, and coordinate effectively across disciplines.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to identify on-site technical issues and drive practical, code-compliant solutions quickly.

Salary & Compensation Package

The company offers a competitive, tax-free salary package commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience level, and the complexity of the role. Compensation in the fire safety engineering sector in Dubai is structured around seniority, certification, and project specialization. The following salary bands reflect current market rates for civil engineers in this niche:

Why Dubai for Engineering Professionals?

Dubai has firmly established itself as one of the world’s premier destinations for engineering professionals seeking career advancement, financial reward, and exposure to landmark construction projects. The emirate’s skyline โ€” defined by iconic high-rises, megamalls, and world-class hospitality developments โ€” is constantly evolving, creating sustained demand for highly skilled civil and MEP engineers across all specializations.

For fire safety and systems engineers in particular, Dubai presents a uniquely compelling career environment. The Dubai Civil Defence authority enforces some of the most rigorous fire safety codes in the region, ensuring that engineers working here develop deep compliance expertise that is recognized internationally. Every major building project in Dubai โ€” whether a hotel tower on Sheikh Zayed Road, a villa community in Arabian Ranches, or a hospital in Jumeirah โ€” requires comprehensive fire protection system design, installation, and inspection.

The tax-free salary environment in the UAE means that a monthly package of AED 8,000 to AED 14,000 represents exceptional real-world earning power compared to equivalent gross salaries in countries with high income tax rates. Combined with subsidized or company-provided housing, annual flights home, and comprehensive health insurance, the total compensation package for experienced engineers in Dubai is among the most competitive anywhere in the world.

๐Ÿ’ก Career Tip: Engineers who invest in obtaining formal fire safety certifications such as NFPA credentials, CFPE, or NICET qualifications while working in Dubai significantly enhance their long-term earning potential and open doors to senior design, consulting, and project management roles within the GCC and beyond.
