Structural Steel Specialist
Position Overview
A reputed Qatar-based contracting company is urgently seeking an accomplished Senior Quantity Surveyor / Estimator with deep specialization in structural steel works. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in quantity takeoff and tender pricing within Qatar’s contracting sector, and must be available for immediate joining.
Key Requirements at a Glance
- Minimum 7+ years of QS / Estimating experience in Qatar contracting companies.
- Mandatory hands-on experience in structural steel works.
- Proficiency in quantity takeoff and tender pricing for structural steel projects.
- NOC (No Objection Certificate) from current employer is required.
- Immediate availability preferred.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership (MRICS, AIQS, or equivalent) is a strong advantage.
- Certification in estimating or cost management is preferred.
Experience Required
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Estimator within Qatar-based contracting companies (mandatory).
- Demonstrated experience specifically in structural steel works — including fabrication, erection, and associated works.
- Proven ability to manage full tender cycles from pre-qualification through to submission.
- Prior experience working on industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects involving structural steelwork.
Technical Skills
- Expert-level quantity takeoff skills for structural steel — beams, columns, trusses, connections, and secondary steelwork.
- Strong command of tender pricing, BOQ preparation, and cost planning for steel structures.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and structural steel drawings interpretation.
- Familiarity with Qatar construction standards, market rates, and local procurement practices.
- Strong knowledge of subcontractor and material procurement for steelwork packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all quantity takeoff activities for structural steel packages from drawings and specifications.
- Prepare and submit accurate and competitive tender pricing for structural steel projects.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQ), cost estimates, and comparative analyses.
- Review tender documents, specifications, and drawings to identify scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, and suppliers during the tender and post-tender stages.
- Provide cost advice and value engineering recommendations on structural steel design options.
- Support project teams in budget monitoring, variation pricing, and claims preparation.
- Maintain and update the company’s structural steel rate library and cost databases.
- Coordinate with procurement teams for supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Other Requirements
- NOC from current employer is mandatory — candidates without NOC will not be considered.
- Must be based in Qatar with valid QID.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
